more so to get the flyers of the now passed BOOndoggle off the top of the page, it’s been awhile since anyone has updated this thing and it’s probably about time.
we still play at least once a week, but it seems the courts themselves have become a ghost town in favor of the garage. with the cold weather rolling in, the non-stop rain and just the overwhelming hassle of having to deal with an avalanche of hood rats … it’s just not worth the effort to play in the toilet bowl of the metro parks system. we’ve poured hundreds of our own dollars into the courts, hours of our time and exhausted all of our patience only to be rewarded with… nothing. well, almost nothing. we did get a sign that the neighborhood kids promptly broke. i guess that’s something.
it’s great that nearby locations like lexington, cincy, columbus, bloomington, etc. all seem to be getting some support from their local governments but we constantly get the shaft. personally, i’m done. i’d rather travel somewhere and play then deal with this headache. this is year 4 in the garage and it’s better than most places.
with that all said, i’m looking forward to next year. unlike most others i’m sure, my plan is to attend zero NAH events. that is unless they start to resemble the non-NAH events that i so enjoy and can actually stand to attend, which i doubt will happen. it’s not worth the effort, the money or the annoyance factor. give me the lock-in or a columbus tourney anyday.
speaking of the lock-in … looks like three of us will be making the idiotic journey to STL again this year for a straight day of partying. we might even play polo.

i’m with you on the NAH thing. that was my plan as well. what a fucking headache. miss ya bud
I think the NAH system has an important role to play, but it’s specific to competitive polo. Regional qualifiers need to be divorced from “the majors”. The Jenny Cup shouldn’t be a qualifier for Northamericans and so on…. Menace is even talking on the boards about “taking back the espi name”. Fun polo and competitive polo can co-exist, but i totally understand the disillusionment that some people felt with the system this year.
NAH as it went this past year is a fucking disaster and like a lot of people, I could give a fuck less. I’m competitive when I play from time to time, but I have no desire to really beat another team or person for that matter (Bruce Carver aside). I enjoy playing with people that enjoy the game, not that need to win the game. Any future NAH event attendance will likely just be to heckle and annoy.
i’m just going to start referring to 2011 as ‘the rise and fall of bruce carver – a bike polo odyssey.’
Well have to get competitive at St Louis, Jimmy. I bet I can have more fun than you
i’ll take that challenge, bob. lace up your skates, it’s gonne be a long night!
